Women that requires physical power decrease day

Women can do any job, there is no forbidden job for women. Despite, why employment rate of women is 31.5% while employment rate of men is 71.6% in Turkey?(TÜ?K, 2017). Unfortunately, these unequal rates are similar in other countries. In laws, Constitution of the Republic of Turkey states that “men and women have equal rights” on the tenth article, however, in social, educational, and professional life; there is still gender inequality. Violence against women, work life of women, and education are the main reasons of gender inequality. Violence against women is the most significant problem about gender inequality. In Turkey, 365 women were killed by men in 2017 except December, according to We Will Stop Femicide Platform. Statistics make us a little bit insensitive but these are real lives’ which had dreams, friends, emotions… For example, Belk?s Varl?k, who was twenty years old, was killed by her father for going out often. However, a woman should be able to go out as much as she wants like a man can. Moreover, women are exposed to sexual violence. In November 2017, G.A. was raped by her boyfriend and jumped from the window to escape and attempt suicide. There are many examples like that. Also, everyday women are abused by men in streets, school, office, and home. Due to all of these, women cannot feel safe.  Furthermore, women’s lives are inhibited by men around them. In Turkey, men suppose that they are the owner of women, superior to women. Housework and growing children are thought as the duties of women, that avoids women from individuality and women hide their femininity. Women usually feel suppressed because of men in other words gender inequality. Women are more aggrieved of mobbing and less active in professional life. Maybe, the lowness in the employment rate of women in some physical jobs can be normal due to physical differences between women and men. However, the number of jobs that requires physical power decrease day by day and labor of these jobs are narrowed.  Although that, still the employment rate of women is lower than men. For example, politics is appropriate for everyone, regardless of their sex. Despite, women politicians’ rate is 14.7% in Turkish Grand National Assembly, 2% in mayors, 2% in reeves.(TÜ?K, 2017). According to data of Ministry of Education, even teaching is considered as the most appropriate job for women,  employment rate of women in teaching is just 55% which is the rate that should be. Gender inequality in professional life is not only in employment rate but also in incomes. Difference between average annual income of men and women are 8432 Turkish liras, despite both of them being employed in the exact same jobs.(TÜ?K, 2015). In addition, 55% of the victims of mobbing are women and while the vast majority of women were sexually harassed, none of the men were exposed to sexual harassment.(Aytaç Dursun, 2011).Education has a crucial effect on the development of gender. Every person in the society has to be educated in the Turkish education system which still includes sexist statements in spite of coeducation. Kindergartens give cars to boys, give babies to girls, provide doing sports for boys and provide playing house for girls. In primary schools, social studies class affect gender in the same way due to books, environment, and teachers. For example, the image of a boy and a girl who are asked what they want to become when they are grown up, the boy immediately dreams about being a doctor when the girl thinks about the housework and being a mother, takes place in one of the Turkish Minister of Education social studies class book.  Moreover, teachers are also sexist and educate student sexistly. For instance, in one of the kindergartens, girls were worn head-scarves and made wash boys’ feet. (“Anaokulunda k?z çocuklar?na ‘ayak y?kama’ e?itimi”, 2017) Furthermore, teaching and applying gender equality are inhibited with preventing girls and boys to be educated or to live in the same place by banning mixed-sex dormitories and opening new non-co-educational private classes in kindergartens and schools.To sum up, datas and experiences clearly show gender inequality. Although men and women having so-called equal rights, there is no gender equality, especially in social, professional, and educational life. To dissolve the gender inequality, punishments for violence against women must be harder. Mobbing especially sexual harassment have to be punished with severe penalties. We should try feminist pedagogy that guides students to be empowered and to act with responsibilities by the feminist theory.(Shrewsbury, 1987). Therefore, we have to struggle more to achieve gender equality.
