The Revolutionary War wasn’t the only war with Britain and America! America fought Britain in the War of 1812. But why was this war started? Americans declared war on Britain in 1812 because of water conflicts on the sea and British-Native American alliances. One reason that America declared war on Britain was water conflicts on the sea. “At the top of a growing list of grievances, impressment of Americans by the British Navy” (“War of 1812 Impressment”). Impressment is when the British captured American sailors and forced them to work in the British Navy. Impressment engaged conflict with Britain, decreased the amount of American sailors, and increased British naval officers. “A frigate of the United States (The Chesapeake), trusting to a state of peace, and leaving her harbor on a distant service, has been surprised and attacked by a British vessel of superior force…” (Jefferson). The Americans were upset at this attack without provocation. This crime was not only without the Americans provoking the British or any other fair reason, but with random purpose to steal American ships and claim for their crew. They attacked without reason just to gain ships for their navy.Another reason that America declared war on Britain was the British-Native Alliance. “Things are not going as we planned, Britain’s got the Native Americans fighting us in the West: This war is such a mess!” (“War of 1812”). Britain allied with the Natives to fight the Americans. Americans were attacked by two forces. A painting shows Britain trading with Native Americans, while the Native Americans beat up an American(Charles). The British and the Natives trade well. Even though there is no proof of that painting being true because no one alive today has seen that, the War Hawks might use this to promote war.In conclusion, Americans declared war on Britain in 1812 because of water conflicts on the sea and British-Native American alliances. So that’s why Americans declared war on Britain in 1812. But, how would America win this war against Britain… and its alliances?Works CitedJefferson, Thomas. “July 2, 1807: Proclamation in Response to the Chesapeake Affair.” Miller Center, 23 Feb. 2017, https://millercenter.org/the-presidency/presidential-speeches/july-2-1807-proclamation-response-chesapeake-affair. “War of 1812 Impressment.” YouTube, MGH, 26 Nov. 2012, www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXFy3g6oxAc. “War of 1812 (Katy Perry “Roar” Parody) – @MrBettsClass.” YouTube, 29 Oct. 2014, www.youtube.com/watch?v=PatU9kzs-bA.Charles, William. “A scene on the frontiers as practiced by the ‘humane’ British and their ‘worthy’ allies.” Rebellion, 1812, Library of Congress. www.johnhorse.com/trail/00/bg/21azz.htm.
