One and we’re going to get a little

One might say that friends friends can’t give you food and a house or the physical necessities you need to live, all they can give you is happiness. They also may say that people in this time period found it easy to travel alone. They are right, but human connection helps one achieve more than one can accomplish Individually. .As shown in John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie get further together as a result of their strong friendship. Slim seeks to  strengthen the connection between George and Lennie due to the strength he observes in their friendship and tries to make it stronger.Additionally, Curley’s wife tries to reach the same point and connection with someone in the book, but never attains this connection. George and lennie are good friends. Lennie who is mentally challenged travels alongside George. To keep Lennie going while traveling, George will make up things to say to Lennie on how they will work hard till they have enough money to have a farm and live off “the fatta of the lan’.”  George tells Lennie “O.K. someday, We’re going to get our jack together and we’re going to get a little house and a couple of acres an’ a cow and some pigs and-” Lennie replies, “An’ Live on the  fatta the lan!” Lennie shouted: “An’ have rabbits…”(Steinbeck Page 14). George’s words are like a myth, it keeps them going, and gives Lennie something to look forward to while traveling. The friendship that George develops with Lennie grows the relationship and motivation for the both of them when they need it to keep going on their journey to living off the “Fatta the lan.”  George knows that if he were to travel alone or with out Lennie he would not get the motivation from Lennie to further continue their journey.  In Chapter 2, steinbeck displays Slim royal figure. Therefore when Slim talks to George and Lennie “Look after each other” he makes the statement on the rareness of friendship. Slim states ” Ain’t many guys travel together,” Slim Continued “I don’t know why. Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other” Slim communicates the struggle there is to find a friend. The fear of other people prevents people from growing strong relationships with people. This is one reason why George and Lennie’s relationship is so special and rare to see.  He further bring it out in chapter 3 when Slim further goes on about how their friendship is unique. When George and Slim sit down to talk, Slim’s word speak on the uniqueness of their friendship “Oh I duno. Hardly none of the guys ever travel together. I hardly ever seen two guys travel together, You know how the hands are, they just come in get there bunk and work a month, and then quit and go out alone. Never seem to give a damn about nobody.” The world that Slim describes is a lonely world. People act as short-lived moving form one place to the next. This world is not use to loyalty and companionship. Slim’s description  is effective in expressing the importance of Friendship, and why George and Lennie’s relationship is crucial to making it closer to their dream.  There is a girl in Of Mice and Men that they call curley’s wife. She is a pathetically lonely after having to abandon her dreams of being a movie star- “I tell ya I could have went with shows.” Out of loneliness curley’s wife comes around the bunkhouse. As said by curley’s wife “”I tell you I ain’t used to livin’ like this. I coulda made somethin’ of myself.” She said darkly, “Maybe I will yet.” She had to hurry before her listener stoped listening”I lived right in Salinas,” she said. “Come there when I was a kid. Well, a show come through, an’ I met one of the actors. He says I could go with that show. But my ol’ lady wouldn’ let me. She says because I was on’y fifteen. But the guy says I coulda. If I’d went, I wouldn’t be livin’ like this, you bet.” In this quote she is explaining to George and Lennie how much she strives to have that friendship and the future that George and Lennie have in the book. Curley’s Wife is not allowed to talk to anyone after being brought in by curly so this was something she says to get the attention she wishes she had from a friend. In the book John Steinbeck wrrks to try to make you tie in
