“I about women rights. I have chosen this

“I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop.” Emma Watson. Good-morning Mrs. Cristobal and fellow students today, I am going to be talking to you about women rights. I have chosen this topic to raise the issue of gender inequality. How would you feel if you didn’t have the right to vote, own property or get an education? Would you be annoyed, furious or confused? Well this is what 60% of women go through daily. For many years women have been trying to claim their rights while men have many advantages that women do not have. Many countries decline putting women’s rights into action. Everyone is entitled to have freedom particularly women. Women’s rights encourage them to be independent and treated with respect and fairness. Some of the most familiar rights they fight for are the right to vote, an education, equal pay and owning land. These issues occur in both developed and undeveloped countries. Over the years this problem has resolved in some countries and people have started respecting women more but on the other hand countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq women rights are often ignored. They are not allowed to argue about the fact that they don’t get an education, own land or get an equal pay because they can’t make those choices they were made by their family. Now you may ask why women don’t get an education in some parts of the world. well In countries like these, women are forced to stay home and do chores for the family. Men abuse them and they cannot do anything about it because they don’t have a right to use their voices and speak up for themselves and because majority of the people think that men are smarter, stronger and have control over everyone else. The way women are treated in Canada is so different from how women are treated in other parts of the world. Here in Canada women have a voice that could be the change in the world but in some places, women don’t even get to express their feelings and emotions. They are controlled by everyone else around them and don’t have a voice to battle against this injustice and say that they have a voice and they deserve to be heard. I consider women rights as human rights but I am aware that I am one of the lucky ones because my school does not limit me because I was born female and my parents don’t appreciate me less because I am a girl. These influencers are the courageous feminists who are making a difference in our world today.  In 1995, Hilary Clinton made a brilliant speech about women’s rights. Unfortunately, the changes and differences that she wanted to make in this world are still happening but what caught my attention instantly was that only 40% of the audience were male. How can we influence change into our world when only half of it feels encouraged to engage in this conversation? In my opinion men also suffer from gender equality too because to this day I’ve seen a man’s role as a father being valued less compared to a women’s role as a mother. I have also heard cases of young men suffering from diseases and mental illness but are unable to get help because it would make them look less “manly.” Both men and women should be able to be free and sensitive, both men and women have the right to be strong…… It is about time that we all treat both genders with equality and fairness. I’ve been asking myself why I chose this topic as my speech what difference will it make in my life and trust me I chose this topic because it took me months to develop a voice that will help me make a difference in people’s hearts. I have been given a chance and I feel that it is my responsibility to speak up for the voices that cannot be heard.
