Hello it’s Sergio Padilla back with some more information on comedy. And today I will be talking of James Eugene Carrey, born January 17, 1962 in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, most commonly known as Jim Carrey. Jim Carrey is one of the most known comedians in the U.S. Jim Carrey started off like any other young comedian in small stand-up shows in Toronto, to later debut at comedy club Yuk Yuk’s. Carrey’s impersonations were not seen as funny and this gave him doubts about becoming a professional entertainer. After returning to the stand-up comedian career, that Jim Carrey left behind, he was soon noticed by comedian Rodney Dangerfield, who signed him to open his tour performances.Despite his fast increasing popularity as a stand-up comic, Jim Carrey turned his attention to the film and television industries. The Candiandan was first noticed in 1990’s in his role in the sketch comedy television series In Living Color. He secured his first leading roles in major productions with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), and The Mask (1994). 1994 was the breakthrough year for Jim Carrey. Dumb and Dumber was a commercial success, and a huge boost in him comic career, grossing over $270 million worldwide. He received his first Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor for his work in The Mask. And he is one of the top 25 actors of all time in terms of box office earnings. His films average just under $100 million in sales. But it was not only jokes for Jim Carrey, in his earlier life he fought against depression. At one point his depression became so toxic, that he didn’t know how he would overcome it. Like many people, he looked and found help from a doctor. Early in Jim’s career, nobody would have ever guessed that he had been severely depressed for many years of his life. It wasn’t until 2009 that he decided he had nothing to lose by talking publicly about his battle with depression. The cause of Jim’s depression is still unknown. It was likely due to his environment, relationships, predisposition, lifestyle, and life perspective. Due to his difficulties in childhood, some have inferred that these increased his major depression. To overcome his depression he accepted that his life will have challenges and times where he feels low, and needs questions answered, but that’s alright. The fact that he accepts life for what it is and realizes the beauty in the good and the bad has helped him cope.
